Brief History

The Ukpo Youth League, Lagos branch, boasts a rich history that dates back to 2004/2005. The league was conceived and constituted under the leadership of the then Chairman Emeritus, Mr. Levi Abalogu. The inaugural meeting was held at Ikeja, where a six-man committee was appointed to oversee its formation. This committee was led by Ogbuefi Emma Otunabo as Chairman and Mr.Ebele Ogala as Secretary, with other members including Prince ND Okeke Ezeanyanwu, Ik Adaka, Chinedu Akabueze, and Obi Obiora.

Initially, the league lacked a fixed meeting venue, but Ogbuefi Emma Otunabo graciously offered his parlor in Maryland for Sunday meetings. Over time, the meeting locations shifted, first to Cabin College in Apapa and later to Cabin College in Festac Town.

In 2005/2006, the first election of the Lagos branch was conducted. Ogbuefi Emma Otunabo emerged as the first Chairman, while Sir Chuks Igwilo was elected Vice Chairman. Following a successful tenure, Ogbuefi Otunabo was re-elected for two consecutive terms, with Prince ND Okeke Ezeanyanwu serving as his Vice Chairman during this period.

Under Ogbuefi Otunabo’s leadership, the league achieved numerous laudable projects, most notably the renovation of the then Ukpo Boys Secondary School. This accomplishment highlights the youth league’s dedication to community development and its commitment to fostering progress within the Ukpo community.

The Ukpo Youth League, Lagos branch, remains a symbol of unity and a driving force for impactful initiatives that continue to benefit its members and the broader community.
